Can I introduce you to my favorite word?
Yet.
Yet holds so much potential and possibility.
It says I’m in process.
It wasn’t until very recently that I learned the power of yet as a way of life.
Just like our bodies, our brains are constantly growing and changing. Yes, somethings are predetermined by genetics but a lot is mailable and has been in training for however long you’ve been alive. Whether or not you are actively training your mind, it is learning.
Here is where yet comes in. I use to believe that who I was this second was who I would be for the rest of my life. And let me tell you it was not a pretty picture. I was depressed, at a stand still with my career and doubting my worth at every turn.
Then in Jan of 2018, I was introduced to a concept that now seems like a catalyst for my life with “yet”.
The sports and performance psychologist for the Seattle Seahawks, Michael Gervais, said “You can only train three things: your craft, your body, and your mind. Why would you leave your mind to chance?”
He trains peak performance athletes! I had previously thought mental training was relegated to therapy and fixing broken pasts but here he was talking about it as a tool for the future! Not a reaction but ACTION.
For the past 2 years I have been conducting experiments, with my mind as the prime subject. The shifts are subtle at first but as you continue its like compound interest baby. One day you wake up and instead of feeling the pressure of the past, you feel the freedom of possibility. Challenges make you excited, discomfort lights you up, and you realize you have become a different person. Your life with “yet” has begun.
So it’s time to start the most rewarding journey of your life. Move from being governed by your limiting beliefs to entering each moment from a place of possibility.
Just like going to the gym it takes commitment and practice but just you wait, “you aint’ seen nothing yet.”
